A Late Holiday Tip...

Use the homeless to work and exploit for very little money!

Some weird guy has been coming by the shop and asks "Got any work I can do for a dollar?"
We usually run him off but today I decided he could give me $1 worth of work.

(It's even on a stained pizza box, how awesome!)

ALSO!
Expect an update VERY soon about strange gifts, minority Santas, 3 Eye Union Presents: "A Very Yenna X-mas", and general holiday shenanigans.
Not to be missed!

An early Christmas gift to you!

I've been meaning to do this for a while but kept forgetting.

If you don't know who Immortal Technique is then you are missing out.
No joke.
Amazing music with an amazing message.
He recorded his last album "The Martyr" and only wanted to give it away for free.
You can have it right this second for free as well by clicking
Shut up and listen. You'll probably learn more.

ALSO!...

Don't forget about the Third Annual Inebriated Christmas Bash coming soon!
(Brought to you by 3eyeunion)
This year we are excited to present:
"A Very Yenna X-Mas"

"A different insight to one of our favorite and most dedicatedly celebrated holidays
from the point of view of one of America's favorite up and coming "funnymen." A Very Yenna X-mas will be sure to not only make you question some of Christmas's strange traditions but
will also leave you rolling in the aisles with laughter. You'll never look at Christmas the
same way again!" - The Hollywood Chuckler

Seasons Greetings

I should be studying for this "Prayer & Worship" final, but I'd rather
share photos from the 2007 Annual 3 Eye Union X-Mas Extravaganza.

I'm looking forward to this years party @ Lings.

Coming soon!

I'm excited about this one.
This is a book that I was asked to be a part of and is planned to be available early 2012.
It will detail the life of Milton Zeis and his career through tattooing. I'm very honored and excited to be a part of this project, I can't wait to check it out.

Jeepers Creepers, look at that list of artists. NO PRESSURE, RIGHT!?

To whom it may concern

I was recently surfing the web searching for cool pics of Jack-o-lanterns when I regretfully came across your website. A poster calling himeself "Drew J" recently posted incredibly distasteful photos of my two late Jack-O-lanterns.

I find it disturbing and offensive that you would exploit my former pumpkin pals on your surprisingly funny and very well put together website.

I will now submit this photo of the two that was taken while they were alive and well.

They would like to be remembered this way.

Mediocre B-Sides

I cleaned out some pictures on my phone today and found some I never used.
I'm not sure why I took these, but I felt they were blog worthy. Suck it, Chicago!

Realizations and exaggerations

You'll find that this post goes against the grain of most 3EU posts.
Lots of words, NO pictures
I know you're panicking right now "A post with no pictures of cats, tattoos, or goofball kids from Indiana!!!??? What gives!?!?!"

Well...I'd like to relive my Saturday via words on a blogging site. See what you can gather or learn from this, if anything.

Without further ado, here is "Saturday"

-Arms and legs grow increasingly "heavy"
-Strange feelings of being excited, nervous, and nauseous
-Sit outside on porch and pick tomatoes from plant in side yard. I feel content and peaceful
-Watch chemtrails in the sky spiral and twist around each other. A feeling of calmness blankets me
-Go back inside and sit down. Nausea worsens and I now have a strange feeling of nervousness and being to sweat heavily.
-I lie on my stomach on the couch and look at my surroundings. I watch the walls breathe, I see the floor move like the waves of the ocean.
-I close my eyes and see things that I can't comprehend. "Castles" made of light, hands gripping onto a pole with fingers endlessly wrapping around it, ...impossible shapes that defy physics.
-Random "pixels" shoot around me. White and perfectly square with "tails" tracing behind them.
-I look at her face change shapes. The paintings surrounding me seems to be aware of me, their colors so bold and vivid. I'm entranced by their beauty.
-I can feel pure joy leaking from every pore in my body. I have become the embodiment of pure happiness in a realm that seems more "real" than reality itself.
-My life, goals, and achievements sit at the front of my mind. It's almost like I can feel someone or something saying "you're right on track. Continue what it is that you're doing." I feel reassured. I feel as if my time on this planet has not been wasted.
-I watch the cats in the room. I think heavily about the cats and the false ideas that speciesism has plagued us (humanity) with. These cats have thoughts just like us. They have preferences, opinions, and ideas like all of us do. We ALL contain these things. I feel strangely connected to all people. To all animals. To all things around me and all things on this Earth. The ideas of money, and status, and suffering seem to disappear from my consciousness.
-After walking (or more correctly; "surfing") to the bathroom and then back to the couch, the words of Bill Hicks seem to play on repeat in my mind. I put on his album "Arizona Bay" and lay back with a small blanket over my face. Rather than hearing the words from this album, I instead feel the amazing energy. I'm bathed by a strong and benevolent energy.
-The music is ecstasy in the form of sound waves. I can also hear the vibration of the energy around me which sounds like hums in my ears.
-Winston the cat lies with ling ling. I could feel him enjoying the music as well.
-At this time Trevor comes over to hang out. His arrival was very exciting and we listened to the rest of Arizona Bay.
-We take a ride in the car. I somehow forgot that "outside" existed. It was strange to step outside at first. We smoked cigarettes and talked jovially. We came up with a fantastic idea that we are going to get started on very soon (you'll have to wait and see!)
-Returning back home, we all sat around the table. We drew pictures and made jokes while I enjoyed the great "vibes" surrounding me.

The experience is hard to describe. It was a roller coaster ride of thoughts and emotions. I came out of the experience with some new outlooks which I feel is very important. It was a nice change to the normal Saturday of just painting or having a few brews with friends. I'm even more driven and dedicated to the things that I love now.

I'm not quite sure how to conclude this post so I'll leave you with

Horse guts

Greetings 3EU fans! It's always a pleasure to see you!
Wow! You look great! Have you been working out? I can't exactly tell what's different but you look good!

Now that that is out of the way...

I did my guest spot at New Republic and had a lot of fun. It was really good to see everyone again and just hang out for a while. While I was there I tattooed this pharaoh 's horses piece on Pat's guttyworks. Pharaoh's horses has been one of my favorite pieces of tattoo imagery for a long time so I was stoked to finally draw my own and tattoo it. I'm very excited to finish it. I hurt Pat pretty good AND ruined his underwearz!

Marissa and I carved pumpkins a few nights ago. These jack-o-lanterns are now "pumpkin lovers" and live on the porch in pumpkininny bliss. While creating the pumpkin lovers I ate pumpkin guts and cut the fuck out of my finger with a mason jar lid. By the way, candle lighting happens every day until Halloween @ 9:00 sharp.

I've been painting too. I'm working on my "official" flash set for 2011. I finished up the 4th sheet tonight so only one more to go before it's finished. I'll be selling prints of the set after it's completely done. I'll probably only make about $70,000 from it but it's still worth it.
Here's a sneak peek of a piece from the 3rd sheet. I thought it was cool but I don't give a care.

Here's another piece from the set. I still have to paint his hands and a couple of other little things but you get the idea.

"Joel! It's Halloween weekend! What exciting plans do you have?"

Well question asker, the answer is "I have no idea, really." Everyone has fucked up schedules this weekend so it could go a few different ways. I may end up getting haunted in a jail or drinking brews or lying around while reading, or realizing that we are all God imagining ourselves to our fullest potential and that we are all one consciousness. Or maybe I'll just paint butterflies.

I'm not a psychic so I obviously don't know.
You smug bastard.

My Saturday you ask?

I go in to work ON MY DAY OFF to be a nice guy and got the morning off to a perfect start when I forgot my gear at home. After slaving away over purty pink ribbons for a few hours I met up with trevor. We got driven around by my dad in his big ol' bronco and after crashing through a few small dirt mountains we shot some guns for a few hours and fucked up some bottles and cans
(just clap your hands)

Afterwards I asked Trevor what he was down to do and I hesitantly agreed to go the bar.

Bad choice on my part.

3 Eye Union occupied Indianapolis

Well, a few of us did.
It was hot as fuck and I was very happy that we brought our Army canteens along.
Drew made some signs encouraging ending the Federal Reserve which of course was right on point with the event.

Here I stand between "sexual chocolate" and Janet.

That looks like a statue of the Washington Monument behind Drew, doesn't it?
FUCKING WRONG!
That's Drew showing off the World's largest fingernail file that he made a few weeks ago.

Sappiest photo ever posted on this site.
Drew found it on the internet.
I have a feeling it will one day be on the cover of Time Magazine.
Just a hunch.

Oh yeah, here are some videos of the event with us making cameos.

Back home

Well, here I am.
I survived my Kentucky guest spot.
Actually,
I THINK I'LL MAKE A BLOG POST ABOUT IT.

I left early Thursday morning and showed up to Lucky Lady tattoo in fabulous Richmond, KY. Lucky Lady was a really nice shop (minus the lack of wifi) and it was fun to see Rob again. This was my station for the next few days. Classy little set up!

This was one of the first tattoos I did while in Kentucky. This one went on a real life lesbian! I had fun with this one but I was still kind of sad knowing that this tattoo could never come close to being nearly as amazing as the peace sign tattoo she had on the top of her arm. All I can do is reach for the stars.

Ok, Kentucky. I have to give you props.
Your liquor stores are awesome.
These places are huge, it's like a K-mart with nothing but booze.
Automatic glass doors, 6 check out lines, drive thru windows, and last but not least; aisles and aisles of the finest corn squeezin's Kentucky has to offer.
I bought a six pack of pumpkin ale and accidentally left it at Rob's house.
Fuck.

What the fuck. I paint a flash set over a year ago and no one has got any of the designs tattooed on them. I take 4 out of my 5 sheets from that very set to Kentucky and I'm tattooing these designs the second day i'm there. This was one of my flash pieces committed to flesh.

We partied pretty hard on Saturday night. We went to a really rad bar called the Paddy Wagon that was filled with hipster nerds and tattooed babes. We met up with a handful of other tattooers to hang out with and have some drinks. We closed that bar down and ended up hanging out in an auto garage somewhere in town (???) The picture above is from a secret room attached to the auto garage. There was a door made of out of a big bookshelf with tons of stuff all over it. I would have never guessed. The secret room was set up like a bar. Weird.

Having a cigarette for breakfast on Rob's porch observing my surroundings. Half way houses, frat houses, and a very obvious drug house a couple of houses down the street. Serene.

The last day I was there I got to do another one of my flash pieces. This was a lot of fun to do (I'm stoked someone finally did this piece!) After that, I got a tattoo of a sweet pyramid with a bunch of eyes on my leg before dropping Rob off at his house and making the nearly 5 hour drive home by myself in the middle of the night.

I learned a lot, I did fun tattoos....it was fun.

Fun Facts:
-Rob's wife is a very good gilded ceramics maker. They sent me home with a cool mixing bowl and 2 coffee mugs that she made.
-I can get to Richmond, KY on only 3/4 tank of gas (what!)
-Rob used to hitch on trains and travel the country when he was younger. I didn't know that.
-I stopped at the creepiest gas station in KY when I was coming home. THE CREEPIEST.
